MONACO TOP CARS COLLECTION
“A "must see" if you are passionate about cars”

Located on the Terraces de Fontvieille, this remarkable exhibition brings together almost 100 classic cars of all ages, made by the large companies in Europe and America as well as six coaches belonging to HSH, Prince Rainier III of Monaco.

“It’s not an automobile museum it’s a personal collection of old cars of all ages and from all countries. Whether popular or prestige cars, they have left a mark on their era and given me pleasure” Rainier III Prince of Monaco.

At the end of the 1950s, the car enthusiast Prince Rainier III began collecting old cars. His collection gradually grew over the years as he acquired more and more models, and the garage at the Prince's Palace soon emerged as too small to contain this collection of around a hundred stunning streamlined and sporty cars.

This 5,000-m2 Private Collection, contains almost a hundred cars, from the 1903 De Dion-Bouton to the 2013 Lotus F1, as well as cars by Alfa Romeo, Delage, Delahaye, Ferrari, , Lamborghini, Lincoln, Maserati, Rolls Royce and the Lexus used at the Royal Wedding in 2011.

The Monaco offshore extension project

As part of the Principality of Monaco’s Portier Cove land reclamation project, led by the Monegasque company, S.A.M. Anse du Portier, Bouygues Travaux Publics, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is launching works on the maritime infrastructure that will constitute the first phase of Monaco’s six-hectare offshore extension. The total value of the maritime infrastructure works is approximately €1 billion.

Philippe Bonnave, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bouygues Construction, said: “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to take part in the development of the Principality of Monaco by way of this new land reclamation project which will create six hectares of habitable space, meeting the highest ambitions with respect to sustainable development and environmental protection.”

The project includes the construction of an eco-neighbourhood primarily consisting of housing (60,000 m²), public facilities, an extension to the Grimaldi Forum, a public car park,a marina with pedestrian wharves, a landscaped park, a seafront promenade and a shaded, planted walkway running the length of the Japanese Garden.

The construction technique to be used for the maritime infrastructure is a fill enclosed by a band of 18 trapezoid reinforced concrete caissons, 26 metres tall and weighing 10,000 tonnes each, equipped with absorption chambers. These precast units will help reduce breaches by strong swells and protect the exposed areas of the project.

The project will pay the closest attention to protecting the environment, preserving biodiversity – with the proximity of the Larvotto Reserve and the Spélugues coral reef – and respecting neighbouring areas, sites and landscapes. The eco-neighbourhood will qualify for a number of recognised environmental certifications, including HQE Aménagement, BREEAM and the Clean Ports label.© Bouygues Construction © DR : Valode & Pistre

Zweiter Weltkrieg: 20.000 versteckte Flaschen

There is a diverse selection of top-class eateries here, from Michelin starred brasseries frequented by the rich and famous, to cozy local spots off the beaten touristic path. Here’s a selection of some of the best restaurants the chic principality of Monaco has to offer.

1. Le Louis XV- Alain Ducasse

Elegantly decorated and exuding prestige, Le Louis XV- Alain Ducasse is one of Monaco’s most celebrated restaurants, boasting first-class reviews worldwide as well as a large celebrity clientele. A sense of the scale of investment can be seen in the wine cellar, which has over 400,000 bottles and offers 4,000 separate wines.

Le Louis XV’s menu has been carefully created to include both Mediterranean and exotic influences, and with a new renovation of the menu underway, diners can anticipate a plethora of innovative and opulent dishes to come.

Francis Bacon’s first and last paintings to go on show in Monaco

Study of a Bull, from a "very private collection", has never been exhibited before

An exhibition on Francis Bacon in Monaco will include the artist’s first and last paintings. The show, opening in July at the Grimaldi Forum, is being organised with the recently established Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation, set up by the Lebanese-born businessman Majid Boustany. He is a Swiss national now resident in Monaco, where he owns a stake in the Hotel Metropole. In the past few years Boustany has acquired 2,500 Bacon items, mainly documentary material but also some important early paintings.

Featuring more than sixty works, this is one of the most ambitious projects about this artist for some time. Choosing to discover the work of Francis Bacon from a different angle – the influence of French culture and his Monegasque period, the exhibition will show several of his major triptychs, which are among the artist's most important works. Alongside these will be some lesser-known works, grouped together by themes and making reference, directly or indirectly, to France and Monaco.

Bacon first visited Monaco at the dawn of the 1940s. A letter, dated 3 June 1940, was sent to the artist in Monaco by his cousin, Diana Watson, informing him of his father’s death. In 1946 Erica Brausen, then at the Redfern Gallery, met Bacon through a mutual friend, Graham Sutherland, and purchased Painting 1946 from Bacon for £200. With the proceeds from the sale, Bacon immediately moved to Monaco.

The Principality of Monaco was to become Bacon’s main residence from July 1946 until the early 1950s. His first address was the Hôtel Ré, where he lived with his lover and patron Eric Hall and his cherished nanny Jessie Lightfoot. There, he enjoyed the Mediterranean landscape and the invigorating sea air, which was beneficial for his asthma. Graham and Kathleen Sutherland were among the friends with whom he regularly spent time during his early visits to Monaco.

Bonhams offers legendary 1980s supercar in Monaco

The Ferrari 288 GTO was so desirable that before production had even begun, every single one had been sold. Bonhams now offers a superb example, estimated at €1,300,000-1,700,000, to be sold at the Monaco Sale, taking place in Monte Carlo on 13 May.

From 1984-1987 only 272 Ferrari 288s were built. The model was developed to fulfill the FIA’s newly introduced Group B race and rally regulations, which required at least 200 road-going models in production. However, the demand for the exotic new model was so great that Ferrari built an extra 72.

James Knight, Bonhams International Group Motoring Director, said: “Rarely does a car take on iconic status when new, but the Ferrari 288 GTO achieved just that. It was, and still is, considered by many to be one of the finest high-performance cars ever built

Bonhams inaugural Monaco Sale will present an exclusive auction of 40 hand-picked, exceptional motor cars. Timed to coincide with the Monaco Grand Prix Historique, the Sale will take place on 13 May 2016.

The venue for this grandest of motoring auctions is the prestigious Fairmont Monte Carlo Hotel, overlooking the Grand Prix circuit’s.
